"It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve." — Henry George

First, I want to say THANK YOU to all those who supported me in my campaign and to the hundreds of folks who voted for me. Unfortunately, we lost tonight as did a large number of conservative candidates around the state. Perhaps the most disheartening thing was the shockingly low voter turnout. In Ada County, it was less than 17%! We are now looking at a situation at both the State and County level that can only be described as "hold on to your wallets" because they will be coming for your money! We lost a discouraging number of battles tonight, but the fight for "More Freedom, Less Government" will continue nonetheless. Thank you again to those who came out in support of liberty today. I look forward to working with you in the future as we try to save our state from the coming onslaught of tax increases and attacks on personal freedom. May God have mercy on our souls.

Today we find out the course that the people of Idaho have selected. Will it be the dark path of tyranny and plunder or a return to personal liberty and a government small enough to fit inside the Constitution? You still have the opportunity to cast your vote for freedom! There is still time to resist the oppression of a government big enough to take everything you have. Vote for More Freedom and Less Government — Vote for Parrish!

Small steps in the right direction are good, but big steps in the right direction are better! VOTE FOR PARRISH, and we will take the BIG STEPS necessary to restore individual freedom and rebuild our economy by reducing taxes and regulations on businesses and individuals. We can achieve "More Freedom, Less Government"!

There is still time to get the word out to your friends and neighbors! Call them, knock on their doors, email them, Facebook them, Tweet at them — Do WHATEVER it takes to get them to the polls on Tuesday and make sure they VOTE FOR PARRISH! voteforparrish.com

I encourage all candidates running for public office to read "The Law" by Frédéric Bastiat amzn.to/K3wH3I and "Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century" by Thomas E. Woods Jr. amzn.to/KRGBXC The principles contained in these two books explain both the proper role of government and how we should go about making sure that government doesn't deviate from that role.

Here is your choice, folks:
You can vote for ME — the champion of "More Freedom, Less Government!"

or my opponent who favors "an internet sales tax" and "local-option taxes."
The choice is clear, if you want More Freedom and Less Government, Vote for Parrish!

The Idaho Statesman has this to say about my opponent in the upcoming Primary Election: "He's open to pursuing an Internet sales tax and allowing cities and counties to seek voter-approved local-option taxes." Do you understand what this means? HE WANTS TO RAISE YOUR TAXES! Vote NO on higher taxes. Vote for Parrish!
A big shout out to all those folks who have come out and endorsed me in my campaign for Idaho State Representative! This is a grassroots campaign that runs on shoe leather. I'm still adding endorsements as they come in, so please don't hesitate to add your name to the list of folks who are supporting me. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence.
And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

I have long been skeptical that the recent "war on bullying" has just been cover for the schemes of central planners and social engineers, and an increasing amount of evidence is proving me right. The Idaho Republican Platform states, "We believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations."
This is the attitude that I will bring with me to the Idaho Legislature. Every dollar of State spending will be scrutinized by asking, "Is what we are funding a critical function that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations?" How often do you suppose that is actually the case?

In 2012, the Idaho Legislature lowered the corporate income tax all the way from 7.6% to 7.4%. At this rate, we will be competitive with our neighboring states of Washington, Wyoming, and Nevada in just 37 years... "It's not that small steps in the right direction aren't good; it's that big steps in the right direction are better!"
Each year, the non-profit Tax Foundation assesses the "Business Tax Climate Rank" of every state. For 2012, Idaho comes in at number 21. "That's not too bad..." some folks say. "We're in the top half, after all." The problem is not as much how we rank NATIONALLY, but we rank REGIONALLY. Every state with which Idaho shares a border is ranked higher than we are. EVERY ONE!
The corporate income tax only accounts for about 5 – 7% of our General Fund, but it is one of the primary reasons why Idaho is not seeing substantial growth in our business sector, and why our unemployment is still so high. Our corporate income tax puts Idaho companies at a severe disadvantage both nationally and internationally and is hampering our economic development.
It is the duty and responsibility of the Idaho Legislature to REMOVE this impediment to economic expansion and job growth! Idaho needs bold leaders who will take the BIG STEPS necessary to make our state prosper. The corporate income tax needs to go, and if I am elected to the Idaho House of Representatives, I will do everything I can to see that goal accomplished.

"I apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe... Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing. Make them intelligent, and they will be vigilant; give them the means of detecting the wrong, and they will apply the remedy." — Daniel Webster
Despite all the focus that has been put on the Presidential race, many of the issues that affect your day to day life are governed not by the President, but by the State. I am running for Idaho State Representative because I want to ensure that individual liberty is protected here at home! Every year, the Idaho Legislature passes hundreds of bills, and at least a few of them (if not many of them) chip away at individual liberty by criminalizing more behaviors, creating more red tape, and placing more restrictions on your personal choices. Do you notice that every time an innocent individual is injured or killed with a firearm, someone always tries to make the argument that firearms should be more heavily regulated or banned, but no one ever seems to make the same case when the weapon used is a kitchen knife, baseball bat, or hammer? What are the most important issues facing Idaho right now? I can talk to you about my primary concerns, but I need to hear your opinions on these critical issues as well.
1.) The Economy ― Idaho needs more jobs, and the best way to ensure that we get them is to lower taxes and eliminate regulations. We can make Idaho the most business-friendly state in the nation simply by removing the many regulatory and financial obstacles that the state has placed in the path of creating and expanding businesses.
2.) State Sovereignty ― James Madison said, "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government, are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite." The State of Idaho is being dictated to and generally denied its sovereignty by an overbearing and out-of-control Federal Government that has grown significantly beyond the bounds which were intended by the framers of our Constitution.
3.) Our Second Amendment Rights ― Even here in Idaho, where our sacred right to keep and bear arms is upheld better than in many places, we are still restricted both by Federal and State laws which infringe upon our Constitutional rights. Two primary issues which need to be addressed at the State level are Constitutional Carry and Campus Carry. Constitutional Carry is the doctrine that the concealed carry of firearms should not require a government license but may be done by any person who can legally possess a firearm in any case. Campus Carry is the doctrine that State funded colleges and universities, as subdivisions of the State, should not enact rules or regulations which penalize students, faculty, or other employees or guests who carry firearms in a manner which they would be legally allowed to do off campus.
4.) Individual Freedom ― For far too long, our Country has been drifting away from the principles of individual freedom and personal liberty that it was founded to protect. Our State has too many regulations, requires too many licenses and permits, and places too many controls on individual choices that are none of its business.

I am very excited about getting out there and door-knocking next week and weekend. Anyone who's interested in helping out please contact me at Parrish@voteforparrish.com
